G'Day Developers!
Do you use email for tasks - not communication?
Email is a very powerful business tool. The main problem,
however, is that for
most people it is out of control - emails build up until they
are impossible to manage. To help minimize mailbox clutter, try
these tips:
- Send emails that contain clear tasks, not banter
- If the email you receive is not clear, call up the person who sent it
and ask for more information. Too many people reply to the unclear email asking for clarification, which
wastes time and does not guarantee a response.
Using your mailbox as a task list
also saves you from having to use
inefficient paper-based cards for
your extreme programming work! (That
will make Dr. Neil cranky :) )

Better Email

Favorite Third Party Tools for
ASP.NET
This month
Adam Cogan
will show his Favorite 3rd Party
Controls for web development. In the
big world of Microsoft it's easy to
forget that there's a lot of other
smart cookies out there building
great programs and utilities. You
could spend hours scouring the net
for the latest .exe or you could
save time and let Adam show you the
best new tools around for ASP.NET
1.1 and 2.0
Using the AdRotator Class & Dynamic
Image Gneration in ASP.NET 2.0
Andrew Coates
will talk about the AdRotator class in ASP.NET 2.0 ?this in turn leads to another cool
thing dynamic image generation ?and this in turn leads us
into the HTTP Handler class. You will see a demo on the 3 modes of populating the AdRotator control and a
technique for dynamically displaying images stored as
binary data in fields of a database. The 3 modes being Database? XML?and Programmatic?
Then it is into Dynamic Image Generation, which will require creating an HTTP Handler class that intercepts
calls to a particular URL and returns the image in a format
that the browser expects. HTTP handlers give you a means of interacting with the low-level request and
response services of the IIS Web server and provide functionality
much like ISAPI extensions but with a simpler programming model.
