Issue Mapping

1 Month to go!

Issue Mapping Masterclass Sydney

1st-2nd Dec 2011
Cost: $1650 +GST PP
$1395 + GST PP for Groups of 3 or more

What is issue mapping?

  • A novel, powerful and inclusive method to elicit requirements, capture knowledge and develop shared understanding in complex projects or broader strategic planning. Pioneered by CogNexus Institute in California, and used by NASA, the World Bank and United Nations, this instructor-led, face-to-face course is only available through Seven Sigma.
  • A sensemaking framework used to support group discussions to assist all involved to come to a shared understanding.
  • A technique of visually mapping participants’ points of view, problems voiced, the rationale and reasons leading up to decisions. Issue maps are created as part of the meeting process and form a central point of reference. These maps are rich and detailed, yet can be easily read and understood by everyone, even by those not part of the discussion group.
  • An effective method of reducing the frustration and repetition of meetings, leveraging ‘crowd wisdom’ by tapping into the knowledge of all participants.

Continuous Delivery : Beyond technical

Speaker: Steve Godbold

The topic of continuous delivery is largely discussed as a set of technical processes for achieving high quality within software development. However a large part of it's value comes from reducing the time from the creation of software to the time it is in the hands of users or customers. In this session we'll take a look at how our process impacts our ability to continuously deliver and how using the Kanban Method to improve our process can support our efforts to deliver better software more effectively.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Steve Godbold is an ALM Consultant based in Sydney, Australia. Consulting to some of Australia's largest government departments, local startups and global corporations, his breadth of experience feeds his knowledge of various software processes. Passionate about challenging himself outside of client engagements, Steve is commonly found buried in his to-read pile, presenting at community events or working hard to make sure his girlfriend doesn't beat him on words with friends.

Using TVP’s and XML to Transport Relational Data

Speaker: Jeff Wharton

Developers can now use a number of different methods for transporting relational data from their applications to SQL Server and sometimes choosing the best method(s) to use can be frustrating. Which one is faster? Which one is easier to implement? Can I use a mixture of both?

In this presentation we’ll take a look at how to implement solutions using XML and Table-valued Parameters (TVP’s) and what’s required to switch between the two technologies. We’ll also take a look at some of the pros and cons associated with using XML and TVP’s in your applications and what can be done to reduce the (perceived) performance overheads associated with using said technologies.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Jeff is a Solutions Architect with Ozcruising and holds a Master’s Degree in Systems Development (.NET Stream) and a Master’s Degree in Database Design and Management (SQL Server). Jeff is also a MCT specialising in SQL Server technologies and holds MCPD, MCITP, MCDBA and MCSD certifications.
