G'day Developers!

SSW TV Has a New Face!

Guys, I'm happy to tell you that we have completely redesigned SSW TV and I'd love if you could spare a few moments to take a look!

http://tv.ssw.com/

Here are the top 3 changes I think you will like:

  1. Quizzes: We wanted to provide more value to the viewer and give them an opportunity to reinforce the key points of the video. Now you can take a short quiz. Go ahead and test your knowledge!
  2. TV Format: We have finally ditched the blog format. See how the content is now more accessible in our new TV-friendly format with the playlist down the right, showing the newest 16 releases. I preferred the scroll stopped when it got to #16, but I lost that argument and it now revolves endlessly.
  3. Navigate by Technology: Say you want to see all the SharePoint videos? Now just click "SharePoint" in the new section on the bottom right "Navigate by Topic"

NEW SSW TV VIDEOS!

What's new in Visual Studio 2013 and TFS 2013 for ALM

The latest versions of Visual Studio and TFS bring some great new features for developers, Product Owners, testers, and even the crusty old stakeholders. More than ever, TFS integrates the whole ALM story to help you deliver your project on time and on budget.

In this session, we’ll quickly recap the best features of TFS 2012 and then look at the great new features in TFS 2013. Adam Cogan will show you the new ALM features that make TFS perfect for Product Owners and company Stakeholders, and how developers work with TFS more effectively than ever, right from Visual Studio. The session finishes off with an awesome story for testers.

This is the presentation Adam gave at TechEd Australia and New Zealand earlier this year! If you were unable to attend, now's your chance to see what you missed!

SSW and TechEd Australia

Party like it's 1999

In September, SSW's own Adam Cogan and Damian Brady attended both TechEd Australia 2013 and TechEd New Zealand 2013.

In each location they gave two presentations, which are now available to watch online for those not lucky enough to be there in person:

  1. Climbing the Agile Testing Ladder featuring Visual Studio 2013, TFS 2013, Microsoft Test Manager 2013, and Lab Management 2013
  2. What's New for ALM in Visual Studio 2013 and Team Foundation Server 2013.

In honor of Adam and Damian's success, we've dug into the archives to share a vintage SSW brochure released in 1999 to celebrate IE5:

Figure: In 1999 SSW celebrated IE5 with a new brochure for that year's TechEd held in Cairns.

Too many web sites are neither optimized nor adapted to render well on mobile devices and too many developers think it only needs some CSS.

Responsive Web Design (RWD) delivers multi-device views without extra costs, but what if you have workflows to implement or different use-cases? The session discusses a few real examples where RWD is not enough and server-side detection is necessary.

About the presenter:

Dino Esposito

A long-time trainer and consultant, Dino Esposito is the author of many popular books for Microsoft Press for .NET developers, including "Architecting Mobile Solutions for the Enterprise" and Programming ASP.NET MVC, as well as CTO of Crionet, a firm specializing in Web-based and mobile solutions for sport events across Europe. At the moment Dino is also technical evangelist for JetBrains, where he focuses on Android and Kotlin development, and member of the team that manages WURFL — the database of mobile devices used by organizations such as Google and Facebook.

This is probably the most confronting interview we have done at SSW TV!

SSW has just spent 8 months building the first release of a transport management system for a major Australian transport company. Join the Product Owner (client) and the lead developer as they hold a live retrospective reflecting on what went well and what could be improved.

The project was a time and materials engagement using scrum. This warts and all interview is your opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at the scrum process from the perspectives of a client and a developer. You will hear honest feedback of the pros and cons of scrum from both parties.

The webinar will be hosted by Keith Longworth and SSW's own Marlon Marescia and Gerard Beckerleg.
