G'day Developers!

Come and see what the FireBootCamp graduates have built

Figure: Video highlights from the previous FireBootCamp gala day to give you a taste of what's coming

It's been 2 months since the newest session of FireBootCamp kicked off in Sydney, and our students have been working hard. I'd like you to come along and see how far the students have come in the last 9 weeks.

Often working from 9 til 9, they have learned the latest technologies and best practices, from ASP.NET MVC to AngularJS and more. They've mastered Scrum and learned a lot about the importance of delivering value to the Product Owner in every sprint.

We're getting better at running FireBootCamps, too. In prior FireBootCamps we split the campers into 3 groups, with each team working on a separate project. This time around we've done things a little differently – 2 teams, working on one project, learning not only Enterprise Web Architecture and Single Page Applications, but also how to share PBIs between teams, do daily Scrum of Scrums, and work cooperatively on a single product.

The product is so good I think almost all of you will use it at least once per month.

(Keep reading to find out what they did to make this great app.)

To celebrate the students' completion of the course, we're holding a gala day graduation for them. Come along and see the campers unveil their finished product, enjoy a special keynote speech by Dr Neil Roodyn, then have a chat with the students over lunch.

Whether you're looking to hire one of our new graduates or are considering enrolling in the boot camp yourself, this event is a great chance to see what all the fuss is about.

P.S. If you miss out on a ticket or can't make it in person, the event will be live-streamed at http://www.ssw.com.au/ssw/NETUG/Live.aspx.

"ASP.NET MVC Security with 2FA and 2FV" – Richard Elberger

One of the best ways we can build trust with our customers and protect our organizations is through application security. This is especially important to Australia's Federal and State Agencies as Cybercrime and Cyber Espionage risks increase.

Authentication is meant to verify identity. Traditional, single-factor password based authentication is no longer enough to protect our users and organizations. Although two-factor authentication (2FA) and verification (2FV) have been available to ASP.NET for some time, with Visual Studio 2013 Update 3 the MVC templates have been updated to support those authentication scenarios. In this talk we will explore the new Visual Studio templates, see how two factor authentication and verification works in both internet and enterprise contexts, and take a brief look ahead at the possibilities of multi-factor authentication.

About the presenter:

Richard Elberger is Director at RAE Consulting, Technical Trainer, Consultant, and Open Source maintainer. Prior to founding RAE Consulting in 2008, Mr. Elberger held management and technical leadership positions at Microsoft Corporation, System Management Arts, Inc., and EMC Corporation. Mr. Elberger holds an MBA from University of Massachusetts Amherst, Six Sigma Black Belt certification from Villanova University, and many technical certifications across a wide range of technologies.
