1: 15 Rules to Better Code + Tools to Keep your Code Healthy (including FX Cop) (1.5 hours)

  • Are you looking to eradicate bugs and ensure consistency? Learn how to take control of your code, ensuring large, complex source code can be simplified, cleaned and maintained.
  • The focus is on the most popular .NET languages (C#, VB.NET) for both Windows Forms and ASP.NET; however, you will learn how to maintain quality code in any language.
  • As a project or company grows, managing code standards throughout your team becomes virtually impossible. Consistent code is crucial to future development and maintenance. Learn how to review your web apps and projects.
  • The tools we will explore include FX Cop, SSW Code Auditor, and Re-Sharper.

2: Data Binding in ASP.NET 2005 (1.5 hours)

  • Do you want to connect people to your data? You will learn how to unleash the data binding potential of ASP.NET 2.0 to assist you in creating powerful data-driven websites in a snap.

  • Adam will demonstrate techniques such as configuration management, the right and wrong way of making inherited forms and 3rd party controls.
  • See how to benefit from user controls and effective exception management.
  • See how Windows Forms 2.0 is a giant step forward.
  • Learn how Windows Forms 2.0 makes it easy to build professional looking applications and see demonstrations of the new Grid, ToolBar, Menu and Layout controls.

4: Rules to Better User Interfaces (1.5 hours)

  • From the user's perspective software is a computer tool for performing tasks quickly, efficiently, accurately and with a minimum amount of cognitive demand. Aim for the second one, there's a big difference.
  • The whole point of a good GUI (Graphical User Interface) is being able to understand what is going on without reading every single detail. That is why we use big red crosses to say "Don't do that you oaf!" instead of a line of text that says "I think you may want to reconsider your options."
  • What is software From a technical perspective, a piece of software comprises forms for managing, collecting and transmitting data. But that is not what a user thinks.
  • Adam Cogan will be speaking about Rules to Better Interfaces, and showing you how best to structure application workflow.
