What utilities and updates should I get for my PC?
This is one of the frequently asked questions by SSW
clients, so we have compiled a list.
Access 2000 Upsizing Tools
The Access 2000 Upsizing Tools white paper
(Upsize00.doc) describes how to use the improved
Upsizing Tools included in Access 2000. Use the document
as an aid in preparing to migrate the data in an Access
2000 database to SQL Server or the Microsoft Data Engine
(MSDE), creating a client/server application from an
Access 2000 database, and troubleshooting errors in the
upsizing process itself.
Access 2002 (XP) Upsizing Tools
The Access 2002 Upsizing Tools white paper
(Upsize02.doc) describes how to use the Upsizing Tools
included in Access 2002. Use the document as an aid in
preparing to migrate the data in an Access 2002 database
to SQL Server, creating a client/server application from
an Access 2002 database, and troubleshooting errors in
the upsizing process itself.
Access 2002 (XP) Upsizing Tools Update: March 23, 2004
Microsoft has released an update to Microsoft Access
2002. This update fixes an issue where descending
indexes in Access 2002 that have been upsized to SQL
Server may still be upsized as ascending indexes after
you install Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3. This
update makes sure that Access 2002 wizard files are
updated correctly.
What do I need to know about the differences between
Access and SQL Server?
This is one of the frequently asked questions by SSW
clients.
Why and when should I upgrade/upsize to SQL Server?
How many users? How many connections? How big should my
Access database be before I upgrade?
What is the best way to program a stored procedure?
SSW standards? Naming conventions? Coding rules?

SQL Server Migration Assistant for Access (SSMA
Access)
Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) for
Access is a tool for migrating databases from Microsoft
Access versions 97 through 2003 to Microsoft SQL Server
2005. SSMA for Access converts Access database objects
to SQL Server database objects, loads those objects into
SQL Server, and then migrates data from Access to SQL
Server.
However, SSW tested SSMA on "1 SampleData2000 - Examples
of Upsizing Issues.mdb" provided in %Program Files%\SSW
Upsizing PRO\Samples folder. One table gone missing in
SQL Server 2005 and in a few tables records were not
upsized.
