A practical course for the ICT Industry utilizing the latest SQL Server 2005 developed by Microsoft. SQL Server 2005 provides .NET integration and XML support as well as a wealth of programming enhancements. The improved security is a feature of this release. This course provides attendees with the knowledge necessary to take advantage of new features provided by SQL Server 2005. It provides a comprehensive overview of technologies, security, and design best practices with particular emphasis on hands-on skills.

On completion of this course, students should have the skills to:

Decide whether to migrate to SQL Server 2005
Develop and write code for SQL Server 2005
Implement Advanced Availability & Scalability features of SQL Server 2005
Implement Advanced indexing and Full-text search features
Design Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
Design distributed applications using the Distributed Application Designer
Use SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services
Use the Business Intelligence Development Studio to develop BI database objects
Use SQL Server Management Studio to operate and maintain BI database objects
Use Business Intelligence Development Studio for designing and debugging BI applications
Understand that SQL Server 2005 provides many options to deviate from generic database design, by eliminating or virtualizing different components

Bring a USB Key so you can back up your solution to take home from the labs
We supply a VMWare image on DVD which is running Windows XP Pro, Visual Studio .NET 2005 and SQL Server 2005
You need a DVD ROM
You need a Pentium 4 with 1GB RAM or more
You need VMWare player (Free from VMWare Player Home )

Instructions for Students: How to log in

From the "Session Menu" on the login screen, choose the "Windows XP.NET" session
Type in your username and password. Your vmware image (session) will start automatically. (You can also start it manually by running the command vmware from a terminal window)
