Working from Home - Romance or Drama?

Wow. Hasn't this been the largest working from home experiment? Developers working remotely or from home, was quite common in our industry even before the Covid-19 lock down. At SSW, I’ve always been reluctant to do more than minimal work from home, for a few reasons;

  1. I believe co-located Scrum Teams are better
  2. It’s a lot harder to give your clients consistency and continuity: Rule: Do you understand the value of consistency?
  3. A lot of energy into improving people's presentation skills, and that is much easier to do in person
  4. I’ve put a lot of time and effort into creating a cool stimulating working environment, and a culture that encourages cumulative brain power

Keep reading to see the rules you can follow to create a great working from home experience.

Accessify your Blazor apps - Hot accessibility techniques for Blazor apps by Ross Mullen

Accessibility can be a jungle to navigate for regular websites and it becomes impenetrable for complex web applications. It doesn't need to be this way. Ross will show three core techniques that move beyond the basics to really address how to start strong and begin to make your Blazor apps accessible.

Ross will explain why you should avoid the DIV button, the 'Frankenstein's monster' of non-semantic HTML which makes things that much difficult for a screen reader user. How to manage on-screen focus using Javascript Interop and show how accessibility can be maintained in large development teams by creating reusable components.

Ross Mullen

Ross Mullen is Director of CANAXESS a web and digital accessibility company.

He works with a range of organisations from charities and start-ups to governments making their digital services and platforms inclusive and accessible using best practice web accessibility techniques.
